Congratulations, you've found my home page!
Who am I?
My name is Sara Sowles, I'm an Illustrator based in Grand Rapids, MI. Although I consider my title to be illustrator, I am also a photographer, seamstress, graphic designer, fashion designer, and well over all talented people. I graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design, here in Grand Rapids in 2007 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration with a Minor in Photography, and I did it all with Honors!
What else can I tell you about me?
I'm married a fantastic artist that goes by The Killustrator, Tyler Sowles. We work in our little studio set up in our little three bedroom house. I tell you it's great to live with another artist though. We have two kids, Donovan (mine from a previous marriage) and Violet. Donovan is 6 and headed to 1st Grade this year and Violet is 1 and has just learned to walk.
What am I interested in?
I love pulp and pin-up style art. I watch too much TV, but mostly the same handful of shows all the time: Star Trek: TNG, Ace of Cakes, Jeopardy, Bones, and Mythbusters. I like to go to Renaissance festivals, mostly because of the costumes; I play D&D, and Vampire the Masquerade, and love to hang out at coffee shops and comic book stores. So yeah, basically, I'm a total geek.
So much art, so little time...
This website focuses on all of my art, whether it's more of a hobby or something I take very seriously. I wish there was a way to focus on all of it, but I work a regular job too, and like I mentioned I have two kids and a husband (so, yeah, three kids.)
Take a look at my Sci-Fi and fine art paintings here. This is a good selection of my work from college on.
I am available for hire for family, children, modeling, and senior portraits. This page will give you a sample of my work along with a pricing guide.
I have a great love of sewing and have been able to apply it to art in a unique way, find out more about my costumes, fashion design and childrens clothing here.
Though it's not something I am formally trained in, I have been working as a graphic designer for a while, and I have picked up some freelance working doing some layout and logo type stuff.
